Now, let us use two courses for the purpose of illustration here.

1. GST101 – 2 credit units
2. MTH102 – 3 credit units

Let’s say Anita, a 100 level student sat for these two exams (GST101 and MTH102) and scored as follows:

GST101 – A
MTH102 – C

This implies Anita’s Grade Point (GP) for;
*GST101* is A = 5 points x 2 credit units = 10 points

*MTH102* is C = 3 points x 3 credit units = 9 points

Now let’s do the calculation of her *GPA*
10 + 9 points = 19 points
2 + 3 credit units = 5 credit units
GPA = 19/5 (19 divided by 5) = 3.8

GPA of 3.8 means -Second class upper in NOUN or 2:1

 CLASS OF DEGREE

4.50 – 5.00 is 1st Class Honours
3.50 – 4.49 is 2nd Class Upper
2.40 – 3.49 is 2nd Class Lower
1.50 – 2.39 is 3rd Class

NB: GPA value lower than 1.50 means – no graduation for the student.
